Meaning to children's lives, the role of those responsible who work directly with these children goes beyond merely professional issues. The negative feelings (arising from the process of abandonment and/or mistreatment) internalized by children and adolescents are externalized with the same or greater intensity as they received. Therefore, care with the qualification of the multidisciplinary team and investment in host institutions is justifiable. Welcoming homes have already undergone many beneficial interventions over time, for example, total institutions (GOFFMAN, 1961) is the name given to shelters that carried out all leisure tasks, health care and education on site. However, this way of maintaining the lives of children and adolescents was challenged by educators and researchers in the field.
Furthermore, shelter homes continue to be an object of study and criticism, “contrary to what was expected, they end up creating the same difficulties, suffering and abandonment already experienced by these children Phone Number List and adolescents, thus re-editing the same relationship that society established with these subjects by abandoning and isolating them” (ARPINI, 2003, p. 77). The result of poorly structured teams, a large number of children, rigid rules of organization and conduct, a fact that annihilates identity and enhances lifelong psychosocial problems. At all times we are the result of coercive actions: when we ask ourselves why we have to behave in one way and not another, morality already has a ready answer: “It's for your good”, society answers us.
Note that “it is for your good” means that, if you act like this, you will be accepted, you will not be marginalized; therefore, you have to walk the line. “Within the lane, out of danger”, the traffic code advises us. And it's not just in traffic; this applies to all codes that govern our behavior” (RIOS, 2006, p. 15). When we prune the choices of sheltered young people, we also prune their creativity, expressiveness, freedom, the will to do things, they become subordinate adults. Challenging the hegemonic discourse is an affront to everything that is posited as truth, termed by many as anarchy. And, if the case concerns children and adolescents under 18, the intensity is greater, there needs to be silence, order, obedience, behavior.
